about

This song began on a Juno 60 that Murray Lightburn of the Dears loaned me. He used to jam upstairs from us. We were trying to do Krautrock without knowing what that was.

"Music breaking time brings regeneration". That’s the album in a nutshell. Music helps us escape time. A singer comes back to life. An emotion returns. A memory is re-conjured. I used to feel that every time we played a song onstage, I was outside time, living in that song space once again. When I wrote this, I was stuck working soul-crushing jobs and needed to believe that music was worth it, that it would save me, keep me young in essence. It was and it did. (But I still have bad work days.) Back in 2002, I wasn’t so sure I would win the struggle. I thought maybe the modern world crushes you…inevitably. So I left the ending ambivalent. Has Silas “seen the light”? Or has he just been placed in some kind of wellness centre run by his overlords? I guess that depends on how you feel today. I certainly had no answer then (or now)…only that music saves, if you let it.

Sound is good is light!

lyrics

Rest in the sun brings regeneration
Soaking in the sea brings regeneration
Love of a girl brings regeneration
Deep inner peace brings regeneration
Sweetness and light brings regeneration
Music breaking time brings regeneration

about

The High Dials Montréal, Québec

The High Dials are an indie pop band from Montreal.
While their melodic sensibility, harmonies and jangling guitars owe an obvious debt to the 60s and power pop groups, they also draw upon shoegaze, new wave and folk sounds to create rich and varied albums. Their most recent album “Primitive Feelings” is a predatory summer mix of lo-fi grooves, acid rock guitars and razor-sharp humour. ... more
